About Brent
Brent Hutzal is a long-time Kitchener resident who lives in the Bridgeport community with his wife, Carolyn, and three daughters, Kate, Claire, and Paige.
He is a CPA accountant and has taught at Conestoga College and Wilfrid Laurier University for over 10 years.
Brent is an avid volunteer and has always been a proud member of his community, providing leadership at numerous organizations: ROW Swim Club, Emmanuel at Brighton Childcare Centre, Futurpreneur, co-chair of PIC at WRDSB, Autism Calgary, and Ivey Connects. He founded the Youth for You volunteer organization that inspired high school students to accomplish community service projects and has been a coach of Special Olympics bowling and soccer programs.

WRDSB has a strategic plan that includes many aspirational goals – I am qualified and would love to play a key role in working with the School Board to accomplish these goals, including the Vision, Mission, Learner Profile, and Strategic Directions.

I Am a Parent
I have three daughters in WRDSB, currently in Grade 11, Grade 6, and Grade 3 – having children in high school, (almost) middle school, and elementary school provides me with a unique and encompassing perspective of all levels of education at WRDSB. Your concerns and questions are also my concerns and questions.
I Am an Educator
I have taught post-secondary education in our Region (at Conestoga College and at Wilfrid Laurier University) for over 10 years as well as serving as faculty rep for the accounting club. I have connected with numerous parents as they help their children navigate the post-secondary process. I have worked with students (many from Waterloo Region) inside and outside of the classroom. I understand the needs, the passion, the frustrations, and the goals of an educator.
I Am an Accountant
Did you know that the WRDSB budget is close to $1B? In the past, trustees have been described as being "bystanders". I have my CPA designation and it is my job to teach people to better understand the financials – I can play a valuable role in the budget process and help to maximize the impact of your tax dollars for our students.
I Am an Active Member of the Community
I am a tireless advocate of children and youth, education, health and well-being. In addition to teaching in our community, I have volunteered extensively for many organizations that support these causes, including Board and Treasurer roles. My wife is Chief of Pediatrics at WRHN. These are causes that are very important in my home.
I Am a Proud WRDSB Stakeholder
I have worked with many trustees over the years. I co-chaired the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) of WRDSB for two years, helped organize the annual PIC parent conference multiple times, and spearheaded the well-received WRDSB Parent Posts series.
I Will Reply
I strongly believe that your voice matters. All WRDSB stakeholders are important - I will bring the concerns of parents, students, staff, and community members to the Board table.
Election Day is Monday, October 26th. If you are a Kitchener resident, you will be asked to place four votes for WRDSB School Board Trustee - I would be honoured to be one of your votes.

Would you consider placing an election sign on your front lawn?
Election signs are not permitted on City or Regional property, so displaying a sign on your front lawn would be a helpful way to spread the word. I would personally deliver, install, and promptly pick-up the sign after Election Day.
